Bixa orellana L, also known as annatto, roucou or achiote, is derived from the seeds of the achiote trees of tropical and subtropical regions around the world.

These seeds have been used by many dedicated and extreme anglers since distant past while targeting Catla catla. Bixin and Norbixin, two of the major chemical compounds found in Bixa Orellana are few of the best chemical compounds for attracting Catla catla. It is the actual secret behind the landing of some record sized Catlas both in Bangladesh and India.

Additionally, some carotenoids available in annatto are highly efficient as colouring or clouding ingredients as well as for making a swift impact in the water. Some edible oils are highly soluble and they spread very fast in water.

Bixa orellana grows widely in tropical and subtropical regions around the world. Mexico, Colombia and Brazil are the highest producing countries of annatto. They grow around some of the Himalayan regions, Cambodia and Phillipines in Asia.

For any true and dedicated catla hunter, Bixa orellana is a must have ingredient in the groundbait. TEAM A.I.B. has gone through an extensive research on Bixa orellana and found some great success in hunting catlas in different water conditions.
